Nomegestrol acetate belongs to a class of steroid hormones called progestins, which are synthetic analogues of the naturally-occurring hormone progesterone. It is an oral contraceptive that can be used alone or in combination with estradiol. Nomegestrol acetate is characterized by high selectivity, binding to and activating the progesterone receptor to inhibit ovulation.
