General Information

Galantamine hydrobromide belongs to the class of substances called nootropic agents, which enhance mental function, particularly to prevent the cognitive deficits associated with dementias. It is used for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.



Galantamine hydrobromide was approved FDA in 2001 as an oral solution and oral tablet, and the next year as an extended release tablet. It is an’alkaloid’that is obtained synthetically or from Narcissus bulbs, as well as bulbs and flowers of’ Galanthus caucasicus,’Galanthus woronowii and related species.
