General Information

About Carvedilol

Carvedilol belongs to a class of molecules termed beta/alpha1-adrenergic receptor antagonists and is used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and congestive heart failure. It both dilates blood vessels and slows the heart rate to decrease blood pressure through inhibition of the beta-1, beta-2, and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. Carvedilol has also been shown to help the heart beat regularly. It is often prescribed in combination with other medications.

 Carvedilol : FDA

Carvedilol became FDA approved for the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure under the trade name Coreg in 1995. It is currently manufactured through large-scale synthetic organic chemistry methods starting from simple, commercially available precursors.
